We are a specialist public library operating within the European Solidarity Centre, a cultural institution. Given the scope of our collection, we classify as a special library.

Collection
Our collection focuses on the humanities and includes works on modern history, sociology, philosophy, political science, as well as culture, literature and art. We gather publications on topics including post-1945 European and global history, the history of Solidarity and opposition movements in Poland under communism, democracy, totalitarianism, human rights, civil society and local identity. The ECS historical collection is particularly valuable and protected, encompassing underground publications and émigré literature.
Our collection is catalogued in accordance with international standards. The ECS Library co-created the National Universal Central Catalog (NUKAT), which is Poland’s central catalogue for academic and research libraries. We have implemented the state-of-the-art Alma library system and collaborate with the Polish National Library (BN) within a shared catalogue environment.

Our Activities
The ECS Library is part of a nationwide library network, meaning we are integrated into a larger system operating across Poland. This network ensures access to library materials and other sources of information for both local users and individuals from elsewhere. As a result, our readers can access collections and resources from other libraries, which makes it easier for them to acquire knowledge and information.
We promote a culture of reading by organising author events, book launches, workshops and performative readings.

Our Readers
Our collection can be accessed on-site, and we also offer interlibrary loans within Poland. Books and periodicals are available for open access in the Reading Room, while special collections in storage can be consulted upon request. Visitors can use computer workstations in a quiet study area, including an adjustable-height desk for special needs, an Academica terminal, a scanner and an electronic magnifier.
