Conferences, workshops, seminars, business meetings and trade fairs, along with balls, auctions, concerts, theatre performances, film screenings and dance shows, and even opera: the European Solidarity Centre has had the opportunity to host countless events and formats.
The European Solidarity Centre is a state-of-the-art cultural institution and an open city space in which people, values and ideas come together. It was established to commemorate Poland’s peaceful Solidarity revolution, which changed the shape of post-war Europe. At the heart of the building is a permanent exhibition, complemented by an educational centre, a research hub, an archive, a library and a media library.
The building at Solidarity Square first opened in August 2014. It was immediately recognised as an architectural icon of the city because of both its bold, modern shape and historical context. It was built in the space of the former Gdańsk Lenin Shipyard, next to the Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers of 1970, the Shipyard Gate No. 2 and the BHP (Occupational Health & Safety) Hall. It was here that Solidarity was born in August 1980.
Every year, the ECS holds more than 600 events for diverse attendees, including heads of state, outstanding intellectuals, people of science, culture and business. Together with our local partners, we will assist you in organising your event in Gdańsk to be long and fondly remembered by your guests.
We believe that the spirit of August 1980 continues to inspire civic energy today and that the legacy of Solidarity remains a source of transformative ideas for Europe.
See you at the European Solidarity Centre.
See you in Gdańsk.
